Pace and Space: A Free Neurodivergent Communication Guide

Updated: May 13

My first draft of the "Pace and Space Communication Guide" was created as a small act of support.

A student I work with asked for help - not with academics, but with something harder: explaining to some neurotypicals how their brain processes conversations differently.

As we talked through it, I realized this was bigger than a stand-alone conversation. There are so many of us: students, families, educators, colleagues, and allies trying to bridge gaps across different communication styles every day.

Sometimes, all we need are simple communication tools . A little space. A little patience. A little recognition that different isn’t disordered, it's just different.

That belief became the heart of the publication I'm proud to share with you today. The "Pace and Space Communication Guide" is a free download created for neurodivergent individuals, their families, educators, and allies who want to build deeper, more authentic connections.

Inside this neurodivergent communication guide, you’ll find:

Cartoon illustration of two brains greeting each other. One brain enthusiastically says "Hi!" with stars and swirls around it; the other brain says "Greetings, Earthling!" Both are smiling.
Connection starts with understanding. Especially when our brains work in different ways.

  • Conversation tools that honor different processing styles

  • Phrases that help explain needs like extra thinking time or movement

  • Tips for educators and allies supporting inclusive communication

  • An invitation to celebrate difference instead of masking it

Whether you’re neurodivergent yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply believe in connection over correction, I hope this guide helps you create conversations where everyone feels seen and heard.

Graphic text on a dark blue background listing common neurodivergent communication traits — thinking pauses, tangents, clarifying questions, fast talking, needing a moment — as normal. Ends with the statement: "Your brain isn’t broken. It’s brilliant."
